Bensonhurst derives its name from Arhur W. Benson who was the President of Brooklyn Gas Light Company. In 1835 Benson purchased farmland that was formerly owned by the Polhemuses family. Between 1830 and 1850 Benson divided farmland into several lots and sold the individual lots to families creating new suburb called Bensonhurst.
Today Bensonhurst is a reviving diverse community that offers affordable living, transportation and shopping area.
